are two different types of positions at the top of the backswing. It depends whether the golfer has a flat or upright swing
plane. Shorter players tend
to have flatter swing planes while the taller ones have a more upright
swing plane. When one has a
flat swing plane, their elbow is very close to their side.
“Tiger Woods, who is over six feet tall, lets his elbow fly
because of his upright swing plane. The
flying right elbow position allows him to make a stronger windup of the
shoulders, and maintain a wide arc by pushing his hands into a high
position at the top.” (Andrisani 75)
