The Water Cycle Introduction The water cycle, or hydrological cycle, is the continuous travel of water from the rain clouds to the great bodies of water to the lands to our house faucets and back to where it started. The sun’s heat and gravity takes a vital role in the constant motion of water. The water cycle is eternal and there will always be the same amount of water it had started with. The water cycle is necessary for all life on Earth because it is continually replenishing the earth’s fresh water supply, which we all need. Without the necessary distribution of fresh water for us to use, there would not be any plants, animals, insects, and especially humans on this planet.
